Just some PJs and leggings

FINALLY I found the time and sewjo to get some sewing down and I must say that I had a rather productive weekend (for once!). :) Although just mainly sewing PJs for Arianna coz the cooler days are starting to hit us, it’s still something. And it was a happy weekend for me – yes, tis true! A sewing Mummy is a happy Mummy. :D

Kwik Sew Knit PJs
My go-to Pjs (Kwik Sew Knit PJs) and some rainbow leggings inspired by Sara of Willow & Moo. :)

Leggings
The Rainbow leggings with some horsey leggings which Godma will undoubtedly be envious of. :P

Leggings
Much loved rainbow leggings that came about only because I had no idea what to do with the scraps! :P I might just have enough to sew up another one – Arianna has been harassing me despite me having sewn mostly for her. :/

This shot was mainly just coz its cute. :)

Those were the days

I was chatting to my sis last week and I asked her how she was doing with her PhD. She’s taking it part time as she is currently working but apparently, she’s lost her steam for studying which isnt quite good coz she’s actually almost done. So I’ve decided to sew a little something for her to get her back in the mood.

I havent got the pattern out yet but I do have my fabric waiting for me and needless to say that it is horse related. Yes, that girl is horse crazy! lol Anyway, during our conversation, she had mention that someone she knew wanted to know more about the gre study guide and for the life of me, I know nothing of it. But I dont think I needed to tell her to just Google it up – after all, that’s what Mr. Google is for. :P

I must say that sometimes, I find myself thinking of my college days and how life seemed so carefree. Aaahh…those were the days…..

How to cheer up a room

I was never fond of flower for as long as I can remember. I could never keep any plant alive and if it did ever survive, it’s all thanks to Mother Nature and the miracle of survival. But this does not mean that I do not appreciate their beauty.

I dont often get flowers and I dont complain about it because as I’ve mention, I’m not a fan but the times that I have received them, they definitely cheer up the room. My MIL never failed to send me a huge bouquet of flower all the 3 times I was in hospital having the kids and I am thankful for them. :) But I reckon she had to call up the florist to put her order in. She’s old school that way and it’s no surprise that she doesnt realise that all she needs to do is perhaps just click Send Flowers. :P

But at the end of the day, although I am no fan – I do love looking and admiring them. :)

SCKL – Imke

If you know me well enough, I hardly ever sew outside my comfort zone. I am somewhat conservative when it comes to matching fabrics hence, my fabric combos are somewhat boring really! :P And if I am familiar with a certain pattern, then I just stick to it. And this is no way good for me coz room for improvement is truly stunted and well, I need to move upwards and not just stay stagnant and happy where I am. Geez, makes me sound as if I was having some crisis at work! But no, I’m talking about where I am, where sewing is concerned. A good example is my recent Raibow leggings. I normally wouldnt even THINK of matching fabric up like this but I was inspired and we all know that only kids can pull off such a garment in public anyway! :P *Hope KR doesn’t disown me when she looks back on this 20 years from now!*

Anyway, in my efforts to move forward, I tackled another new pattern to me, one from SCKL – Imke. This pattern is quite easy and has o so many variations to choose from that it took me AGES to decide on what to pick!! >.<

SCKL - Imke
Because this is my first attempt, I used some scrap fabrics and this really soft ribknit that I got from the Op shop. I think it turned out ok. :)

I took note of a couple of things that I need to do next time. And one of it is to trim and neated the lining before sewing it on. Perhaps others know about this but I learned this through my own mistake. And while is generally is ok, only I know whats wrong so that bugging the heck out of me! :P

SCKL - Imke
Decided to add some trims to it – had a hard time parting with this pretty ribbon but thought to myself, my ribbon collection is breeding – I NEED TO USE THEM UP!! So I did. :)

Verdict : 2 thumbs up and an order for another one. :) The hood was the selling point so I’ll try this again and this time I think I’ll go the straight sleeves with hood and minus the additional short sleeve. According to Arianna, ‘I NEED to wear this to school’. :)

Somewhat productive

Since I started my new job, my craft time has gone down the drain. While I was able to sew at least 1 garment a day, it now takes me days to just TRACE the pattern and cut it out, and then more days to cut the fabric out. As for sewing, it would be a miracle if I found anytime to even rethread the machine after I get back from work. So sewing time is now only possible during weekends, and even then, I’m busy doing other things. What happened??

I am totally in awe of full time working mums who are able to tackle a household and sew as well. At this point in time, I see what an achivement it is to be able to balance and organize it all – I salute my Mum who did all this and more. I am blessed that Ted takes a huge load off my back when if come to household chores these days. He truly does the bulk of it right down to ironing my work clothes! (Envious are you? :P ) And I dont have to cook dinner coz dinner normally is waiting for me when I get home from work. Despite all of this, I STILL cannot find the time to sew. I must honestly suck at organizing my time. :(

Anyway, I have been busy destashing a lot of my fabric. It actually feels good to see some empty space in my fabric cupboard. But more space means I need to get more new fabric to fill it up! :P Mum wont be happy to hear that I’ve gone fabric shopping but its really hard to stop a fabriholic. And this is pretty much the only shopping I do excessively. I’m sure its forgivable! :) Well, I should really make hay while the sun shines…off to cut some patterns up!

Tease them and make them sharp!

Since she was small, Arianna has been fond of puzzles. She absolutely loves jigsaw puzzles and can play for quite sometime on her own provided it is without any distraction in the form of small people. :P I reckon she will grow up to truly enjoy brain teasers just like her Daddy.

CIMG3291
See? This happened during the NY party at my aunt’s place! lol Both Daddy and his girl totally engrossed in some mind game. :) Too precious!

I am actually really glad she loves puzzles like these coz these will definitely help sharpen the mind and this a plus for the mind. My brain needs a workout too but I just dont have the patience. I should learn from Arianna. :P

No, no, noooooooooooooooo!

What’s worst than not having enough time in a day to sew? A blown out ceiling light is what!! :(

As it is, I look forward to sewing on the weekends and then this had to happen. And of all lights to blow, the one directly above my sewing area had to be the ‘chosen one’. Ack!!!! So mad!! So mad!! S sad, so sad/ :( ( I’m going to start nagging at Ted to get a new one else I’ll never get any sewing done. And no, it doesnt help that its too dark even during the day. *sigh* Just my luck! :(

Hello world!

Truly! Why? Because for awhile there ALL my blogs were down as I was moving them to a new host. Everything was wrong with them from wrong passwords to messed up DBs….to pretty much EVERYTHING about my blogs were a mess! But thanks to my new host who spent a lot of time correcting some 6 years of blogging and doing some major housekeeping of them all, things are super!! :)

A huge thank you to Chris of Gator Bytes for sacrificing his braincells for this. You da man!! :)

Illegal dumping

I’m not sure if this is something normal anywhere else but in Australia, it is quite a common sight to see people putting things they dont need, out on the curb for other to take if they want to. Of course, it may or may not be working but thats the risk you have to take when one becomes a human roach – a term ‘lovingly’ coined by Ted for those scavenging on other peoples trash. *rolls eyes*

While it is illegal to dump your rubbish on the curb, during Council clean up you can do so quite happily within the given space and size of the things you throw out. And it is then things gets snapped up so fast, all you have to do is blink and its gone! I know this coz I put out a double pram and went up to get more stuff to put out and it was GONE!! Quite shocking really – you’d think that people are actually waiting around the corner watching what you put out and I wouldnt be surprised if some people do that!!

People throw out LOADS of stuff from tvs to swings, to sofas and matresses…even monitor stands too!! Some things are in good condition while others are simply thrash that needs to go. For us, we havent taken anything but we have given and they have taken! :)

Knitted dolls

Ever since I started knitting, I have found it to be somewhat therapeutic. And while I would never dream of knitting up dolls, I reckon they are really gorgeous once knitted up. MIL has bought some knitted dolls from her friend for them and I thought I’d share it with you. :)
