So many baby bunnies this year!

According to the Chinese zodiac, this year is the year of the Rabbit and so many of my friends are having babies this year. Hence, so many baby rabbits are due!! :) Just the thought of a newborn makes me go clucky…and how my ovaries ache for another baby but when I hear the screaming first from mum (in delivery) to bub when they start to get alert, my ovaries tends to shut up. :P

Anyway, since I’ve got to get to a few baby showers before the year is out, I’ve been thinking whether I should make something or just get one of those shower gifts for new Mom’s that you can personalise if you want.

See, I’m all for making something personalized because it is something that I want to be unique and special which was the reason why I was comtempleting making the gifts. But due to my horrendous time management skills, I might have to just buy them gifts instead and perhaps make something for the girls. I’ll have to sit and think about this out for a bit but in the mean time, back to the kitchen – no rest for the wicked!!!

Procrastination…then distraction

While the 2 of them should not be allowed to walk hand in hand, it’s exactly what is happening with me. >.<

I think I’ve talked so much about it, you must be sick of hearing me say but I have to at least one more time. I’ve actually completed ONE of the 4 flowergirls dresses and I am not really happy with it. At the very last moment (after I had cut out the fabric), sis told me to leave out the contrasting band and just sew the whole dress in the same fabric. I am quite certain there is enough for another 2 dresses but if there is not, we already have a backup plan so on that part, it’s all good.

The thing is, I’ve stressed out so much about these dresses that I am not really making much progress at all. In fact, I kept procrastinating and then when I finally finished the dress, I realised that I didn’t have the right zipper!!! *slaps forehead* So now, the dress is only 90% complete. *sigh* I feel that it’s dragging my sewjo, it’s a really unpleasant feeling since I really enjoy sewing and by right, I should enjoy sewing this for my sister. :(

With all the procrastinating and all, I decided that perhaps I needed some distraction away from the stress so I decided, on a whim really to pick a couple of spring/summer patterns for the girls and in just a day or 2…..I’m now stuck with at least 6 garments that I am looking forward to sewing. :) I’m hoping a break from the ‘important’ dresses will do me some good and also, with my birthday coming up….Spotlight has given me a $10 cash voucher to spend instore! ^.^

This will give me added discounts on the ongoing sale at the moment so my next trip there will be hopefully fruitful. The 2 main things that I need to get is the zippers and the tulle fabric for the tutu. I might try and scam some fabric from DH. lol :P

That first time

Since this blog gets no life unless something gets sewn, I thought I walk down memory lane and go back to some of the things that I first sewed. :) These days, when I come across some of the old stuff that I’ve done…I cringe! LOL Yea, I’m no expert and I dont consider myself an good seamstress but judging on what I’ve sewn in the past, I can gladly say that I’ve improved….A LOT! :P It’s something to be proud of, for me.

Long pants
My first attempt at long pants with some simple pattern my mum just drew on the spot (Gaws, that woman is amazing!)

Long pants
These pants have since had ribbing sewn on the bottom to keep it from runny up those baby legs. Brandon is now wearing it so despite the horrible start to the pattern, it’s been worn by all my babies. ;)

Baby rocks!
My first official garment sewn from a pattern and a huge thank you to a fellow seamstress who also happens to be a good friend, Aida. She took the time to make me a tute – how sweet is that?? :)

Rock on baby!

The stars and the moon
In my Flickr photo, I wrote this : “My latest dress which by far is the one I am most proud of, on a personal level. Only because after 2 failed attempts of making a dress for Arianna, this one finally worked out! [I am hopeless is measuring!!!] Also, this is my first time using ribbing [that red bit around the neck and armhole], first time using knit fabric [stretchy fabric] and most importantly, my gathers actually came through!! So yes, this is really a great achievement for me on a personal level. I am very proud of this dress. :D ” I’m still very proud of this dress! :D

The stars, the moon and I
No longer this little girl anymore….

I wish I could spend more time just churning out clothes for me and the family. I can’t remember the number of times Ted has told me how he regrets getting me this tiny table sewing machine that weighs nothing. Which was the main reason why I got myself promoted to a decent machine and an OL to boot. :D I’ve been eyeing an embroidery machine but those things cost an arm and a leg. And not only do I not have the moolah for it, space is a major problem. So for now, I’ve quite happy with what I have. In fact, I am truly grateful for what I have.

Looks like I have finally found where my true interest and passion lies. :) Super like!!

Online business

Have I ever mentioned that I would like to own a fabric online store? It facinates me how there are just so many types of prints out there and I cannot imagine not being able to get my hands on them if the internet didnt exist. Of course if you think of the olden days, everything was snail mail but the wait would kill me!

These days, everything is just a click away. :) Owning an online store for me would be a dream come true. Running it would not be easy – not when you’ve got 3 under 5 but I think it is not impossible. The easiest thing to do is to get a domain name but to actually get the store program up and running might require some extra professional help. I’ve yet to ask around but I might check out Web-Est.com auto shop software to see what they are all about.

I don’t know when the store will be up and running but I sure am looking forward to the opening! :D

Future sportsgirl?

Arianna recently went to get her 4 year old jabs and since we stacked our car last Saturday, we’ve been unable to get anywhere! So Ted and Arianna took the bus to the doctors and she apparently did VERY well! No crying or screaming which is good….we’re very proud of her! :)

One of the things that I told Ted to bring up with the doc is my slight concern about how her feet are slightly sticking inwards – like pigeons feet. While we dont really expect her to bag all the sports trophies at school, it was good to find out that this will not really cause any problems for her when the time comes.

Frankly, I’m not too sure what sort of ‘things’ I’ll be sewing for her then. Lots of the mamas with school going kids all seem to be busy sewing school clothes!! I wonder how am I going to cope in the future…. O.o

Summer sewing – Part II

Finally finished that pile of cut out patterns!! What a relief. :) While I am happy that it is finally done, I’m not really looking forward to sewing the flowergirls dresses which is not good at all seeing that I have approximately 6 weeks to complete 4 dresses. Anyway, one to the pix :

Summer wardrobe Part II
This one is all for the little man. Most of these I made big so that he can get more wear out of it. The tshirts are from Otto #5, 3/08 and the shorts from 3/11. All fabric from CM except the shorts was from Lincraft.

I feel as if the kids wardrobe is sufficient for when we go down but then I think twice and then in my mind I think that noooooooo, the girls need more things!! So I’ve decided that if time permits, once I am done with the 4 dresses, I’ll focus on getting somethings for the girls. Otherwise, I’ll be committing a huge seamtress sin – buy ready made!! lol :P

A Sweet Pea for my sweet pea (3/11)

The moment I laid eyes on this pattern, I knew I had to sew it up for the little man. And the best part of it all is that I managed to copy it fabric print!! :) Yup, exact same color as the one in the book but not the same fabric type though. :P

CIMG2537
Love, love, love!! (But its got loads of flaws that I wont be pointing out to you. :P )

Sweet Pea (3/11)
Almost perfect matching up of stripes…..

Another reason why I feel somewhat successful is because I’m slowly getting the hang of sewing invisible zippers!! (Yes, Mum….I know how, will come show you! ^.^) This simply means that I can now sew stuff that I have been putting off becoz of the invisible zipper. YAY!! :)

The only thing that I am not too chuffed about is the inside where the fusible interfacing is done. The waistband is ‘exposed’ on the inside so you can see the interfacing. I’m wondering if I read the pattern wrongly? Bub hasnt tried it on yet, weathers too chilly even for modelling so will wait till it warms up a bit more.

And another reason why I just HAD to sew this up…

CIMG2534
This gorgeous vintage anchor button which is either as old as me or older!! Mum sewed me a sailor inspired dress when I was a little un’ and it had this button on it. Reminded me of those days….must see if I can dig the pix out when I’m back home. Or might bug sis to do it for me. Heh. :P

TFL….

Getting there….getting there!!

If only I had more than 24 hours a day!!*bluergh*

I totally suck at time management which leaves me absolutely lost and rushing to complete what I need to do on a daily basis. I was meant to help my sis find out more about what high risk life insurance is all about but I just can’t find the time!! :(

However, on a slightly happier note, I have finally completed bub’s summer wear. At least for now! :) I’m quite pleased with how they all turned out so I’ll be posting up some pix later. Now, off to do some reading!

Summer sewing – Part 1

I finally got a move on things. Sewjo has been somewhat sluggish but I am (I HAVE TO!) get there. I’ve set aside some 6 weeks to complete 4 flowergirl dresses and I think that is more than enough so I’ll start on them as soon as I finish what I’ve cut out. Just a few more little things for Brandon mainly – unless I get distracted and start on other stuff for the girls. :P

For the boy (Part I)
For the boy (Part 1) : Tshirt (#5, 3/08), sleeveless envelope top (#6, 3/11), sleeveless tank top (#19, 2/05) & jersey shorts (#6, 3/08) The shorts is not made to match. :P

Strawberry Tunic (#12, 3/08)
My fav all time summer top pattern for the girls

Godma, jangan jeles!! :P
